OUR DIRECTORS
Southern Accord is very fortunate to have two very talented musical directors leading us! Together they "Harmonize" our world! Both are accredited by Sweet Adelines International as Certified Directors and their leadership inspires and motivates us each and every week.
Betty Baldwin
Betty has been a member of Southern Accord Chorus since September 1993 when the chorus had its very first rehearsal and she was there when the chorus got their charter with Sweet Adelines International.
She began as assistant director and took over as director for the chorus in 1999. She took us to our second contest in 2000 and never looked back.
Betty's love of music and harmony comes from her history of piano lessons and school band. For many years she sang in a church choir, and she is still serving as church organist and choir director for her church.
Betty has taken advantage of the many opportunities offered by our organization to learn and advance her skills as a singer and as a director. She loves to travel to the Regional education events as well as the International Education Symposiums. In January 2005 she completed the Director Certification Program through Sweet Adelines International and now adds "Certified Director" behind her name.
Janice Atkins
Music has always been an important part of Jan's life. She has always been involved in music in some way: teaching piano, directing or singing with choirs or youth groups, or just for her own enjoyment. She first heard Southern Accord when they sang on a local men's barbershop show. She was intrigued by the unique sound of barbershop harmony so she came out to a rehearsal and that was that. She was hooked. She joined the chorus in 1998 and knew almost immediately that she wanted to be in front of the chorus directing some day.
It wasn't long before she became Assistant Director and then in 2001 she stepped up as Co-Director with Betty and directed her first contest in Saskatoon in 2004. Jan has also taken advantage of the education offered by the organization and she also enrolled in the Director Certification Program and received her certification in March of 2005.
Betty and Jan impart their love of music and harmony every week and together help us to constantly reach for newer and greater heights. We're very fortunate that they have chosen us!!
